Spring 1 - Mysteries of the Maya

Welcome back to the Spring Term and Happy New Year!

Year 5 and 6 begin this year with a history-focused topic: 'Mysteries of the Maya'. Through this, pupils will delve into the lives on the Ancient Mayan people and discover what led to the rise and fall of this advanced, ancient empire.

Our science focus is all about evolution and inheritance, and children will study the scientific theories of Darwin, linking closely with our RE topic: Creation and Fall, learning about whether science and religion conflict or compliment one another.

We have an exciting new art topic, where children will be creating 3D art, based on the works on Lubaina Himid, and in computing children will learn about website design and create their own web pages.

As always, there is lots to look forward to! See below a medium term plan of our key learning in the other subjects and we look forward to meeting with you all at the upcoming parents' meetings in February.

Year 5 and 6 team
Year 5 and 6 kick started their science unit with a fabulous evolution presentation inside this inflatable planetarium. Children learnt all about Darwin's voyage on the Beagle and his scientific discoveries about evolution through his observations and his theories on  survival of the fittest.
