At Indian Queens Primary School and Nursery, we provide high quality oracy education with oracy being at the heart of our curriculum. Purposeful talk is used to drive forward learning through talk in the classroom which is planned, designed, modelled, scaffolded and structured. This enables learners to develop the skills needed to talk effectively with confidence. The deliberate, explicit and systematic teaching of oracy across the curriculum will support all children to make progress in the four strands of oracy. At Indian Queens School and Nursery, we want all children to find their voice and to feel empowered through developing confidence, articulacy and their capacity to learn. Providing high quality oracy education empowers students, regardless of their background, to develop skills to succeed in later life. We are part of the Voice 21 Oracy programme which supports us to create an oracy embedded curriculum which enables pupils to developing their speaking and listening skills.

In our EYFS we use the SHREC approach in all interactions with children. We also use the NELI Project and WellComm to screen children’s developmental language stage. Children are selected based on assessment to be part of intervention groups to build on speech, language, communication and concentration skills.
