School Parliament

Each class in KS2 (from Year 3 - 6) vote for their Member of Parliament (MP) to represent their class in the School Parliament. This child represents the views and opinions of their class in School Parliament meetings and the Y6 MPs liaise with KS1 classes to gather their contributions. These meetings are held regularly with the Head of School and allow children to make suggestions for how to improve the school for its children.
We also have School Parliament meetings that consist, not of a small group of MPs, but the whole key stage where pupils can submit petitions for the school Parliament to discuss. We believe this gives everyone the chance to input their ideas and discuss important topics as well as learn about the democratic process. Petitions for suggestions can be obtained from the School Parliament display and form the basis of what will be discussed in the meeting with the Head of School.
Year 6 have had the opportunity to visit County Hall in the past during the Spring Term to find out about local government and the democratic process. We have recently been part of a Cornish Parliament where various schools came together at County Hall to debate crucial topics.
